Getting started

What’s new: release notes

An article about every release, the card on the desk, and why no release ships without its help.

The What’s new section tells about every YouEDC release in its own article: what appeared in YouEDC Capture, YouEDC Studio, YouEDC Safety, YouEDC Sites and the portal itself, and where to read about it in the help. The newest release is on top.

The list of releases: version, status, date, title, sections with the number of new items
The list of releases: each has a version, a status, a date and a coloured strip of the sections where something appeared.

What a release article holds

  • Version and status: “Installed” runs on the server; “Built, waiting for install” means the archive is ready; “Being prepared” means the release is gathered from what is already merged.
  • The main points in two or three sentences, and the numbers: how many new items, in how many sections, the archive and the commit.
  • New items by section, each with links to the help articles that describe it in detail.
  • Improvements and fixes that are not a function of their own.

Example: release stage-a.5 has, under YouEDC Capture, the item “Investigator e-signature” with a link to the Investigator electronic signature article.

The card on the desk

On the portal home after sign-in, a “What’s new” card sits above the indicators: the version on the server, its title and the number of new items. The “Read the digest” button opens that release’s article.

The card shows until you read it: once you open the release article or press the cross on the right, it disappears and comes back only with a new release. The mark is kept in your account, so the card does not reappear on your phone or another computer either.

A What’s new link is also in the footer of every page, next to the version.

The letter about updates

Once a week you can get the most important news by e-mail, in short. Switch on “Letters about updates” in your Profile, section “News and reminders”, with the box at sign-up, or with the “Send me letters about updates” button under the “What’s new” card on the desk.

  • When it comes: on Monday at 09:00 Central European time, if a new release was installed on the server during the past week. No letters in weeks without updates. Two releases come in one letter.
  • What is inside: for each release its version, title, up to three lines of the most important and the coloured section labels with the number of new items; the “What is new, in full” button opens the article. Below is the “Your YouEDC this week” block: how many studies you are in the team of, and what comes next in the portal. The letter is in the language of your profile.
  • How to switch it off: the “Unsubscribe in one click” link at the bottom of the letter (or the Unsubscribe button of your mail app), or the box in your profile. Switching on and off is written to the audit trail.
The “YouEDC this week” letter: the release version, three lines of highlights, section labels, a button and the Your YouEDC this week block
The letter about release stage-a.8: the highlights in three lines, the rest behind the button.

This is a consent of its own: letters about updates are switched on separately and only by you. Demo users never get them. The admin can switch the mailing off for the whole portal and pick the day, hour and time zone in Administration > Settings, where the “See the letter” link is too.

How a release gets here

Scheme: a change with its help, the release note, tests, the archive, the install, What’s new
The path of a release. A release without its article and its help in three languages is not built: tests check it.

Every function of the portal must be named in some release article and lead to a help article, and every help article must exist in Russian, English and French with the same sections and pictures. Otherwise the tests fail and the archive is not built.
